Safety Tips

Most people you meet on Cosmix are here for the same reason you are. A few are after money. These tips are how you tell the difference, and what to do when you can't.

Money is the line

Never send money to someone you met on Cosmix: not cash, gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, payment app transfers, or a loan until Friday. Never share bank or card details, passwords, or verification codes either.

Every romance scam ends with a request like that, however long the story before it. The story will be good: an emergency, a sick relative, a customs fee, a plane ticket to finally meet you, an investment doing so well they want you in on it. The answer is the same every time.

Red flags

  • They ask for money, gift cards, crypto, or financial help, in any amount, for any reason.
  • They pitch an investment, a trading platform, or a way to get rich quickly.
  • A crisis appears just as things are getting serious.
  • They want to move to another app, text, or email right away.
  • They won't video call, or the camera is always broken.
  • They declare strong feelings very fast.
  • Their story keeps changing.
  • They ask for passwords, codes, or financial details.

Keep it on Cosmix until you meet

Our moderators can only see what happens here. Somebody who moves you to another app straight away usually wants the next part out of sight. Stay in Cosmix chat until you have met in person.

Before you meet

  • Video call first. It takes two minutes and ends most scams on the spot.
  • Meet somewhere public, and get yourself there and back.
  • Tell a friend where you are going and who you are meeting.
  • Leave whenever you want to.

Report it

Every profile and every conversation has a Report control. Choose Asked for Money or Financial Info or Fake Profile / Spam / Scammer. Reporting also blocks, so the account leaves your feed and your conversations at once. A person on our team decides every scam report.

If you have been scammed

  1. Call your bank or card issuer now. The sooner they know, the more they can do.
  2. Report it to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov and to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
  3. Report the account in the app, and write to us at safety@cosmixpairing.com so we can help with your report.

Being scammed says nothing about you. These are professionals working from scripts, and careful people get caught too.

What Cosmix does

When we find that an account was after money, we remove it permanently. Within 24 hours we email every member who received messages from it, with its name, when you last talked, and what to do next. Our Trust and Safety page explains how moderation works.
